Let’s take this time to delve into something that is growing in popularity, raising questions, and even some eyebrows in its wake. Said thing is called MONEY AFFIRMATIONS!

You may be amongst those who want to know what all the fuss about it is.

Where did the idea of money affirmations come from and what are they actually?

Are they really important for financial success or is it some cooked-up New Age brouhaha?

As a religious person who doesn’t want to go against my faith, is this something that is okay to practice?

If there is any good to come from it, how do I create mine and use them to my advantage?

If you’ve pondered questions along these lines, I have great news for you!

This article is designed to address all of these, and then some! Now let’s kick off with the basics.

What are Money Affirmations?

Money affirmations in simple terms are positive declarations that are useful in improving our mindset and beliefs about money. They are phrases about yourself that can help set your thoughts toward your financial wellness. They serve as a powerful tool to help us attract abundance and wealth into our lives.

In a sense, we are likely to have been damaged early on in life. There are things from our upbringing and environment that have created deeply ingrained limiting beliefs about money. These long-held ideas and attitudes that aren’t serving us are often difficult to change and take some time. Affirmations can help us in this regard. Working on our subconscious minds so we internalise more positive and empowering beliefs that would help our finances, and also reduce our stress and anxiety about money.

Money affirmations influence the way we think and feel about money. Like it or not, our thoughts and emotions directly influence our actions and behaviours, which in turn affect our financial situation. When we have negative (limiting) beliefs about money, we tend to attract more scarcity and lack.

By using positive affirmations, we can change our mindset and begin attracting more abundance into our lives. By repeating these affirmations, we reprogram our subconscious minds to believe that we too are deserving of financial prosperity and will get it.

Why do we need Positive Affirmations?

If you have watched the 2006 documentary film The Secret, the concept of the Law of Attraction is not new to you. The Law of Attraction states that we have the ability to attract into our lives whatever we focus on, good or bad. The idea at its core is to focus on what you want for your future, including your finances. You find a way to make happen the things that you really want.

What we think about, we bring about. Our minds wield immense power in shaping our reality! If we have negative thoughts and beliefs about money, we are more likely to experience financial challenges. Whether we intend to or not. We as humans tend to be our own worst critics. Allowing negative self-talk to happen much more than we should. Check to see if you have ever thought any of the following things;

“I am always struggling to pay my bills.”

“I never have enough money to do the things I want.”

“I am always living paycheck to paycheck.”

“I don’t think I can ever get out of this debt”

“Money always slips through my fingers no matter how hard I try.”

The truth is, the more you think such things, the more likely it is to stay true. If you desire a life of abundance and can picture living your dream life, tapping into the power of positive affirmations is helpful. This practice is not something borne out of sorcery or some dark arts for you to be afraid to delve into it. Whatever your faith and beliefs are, affirming the right things in your life is a good thing.

Positive affirmations can help us overcome our limiting beliefs and those negative thought patterns that may be holding us back from achieving our financial goals. When we believe that we are deserving of financial abundance, we start to attract more opportunities for wealth and success into our lives.

The benefits of this practice include reducing the stress and anxiety from our money fears, promoting within us an abundance mentality and growth mindset, boosting our confidence, improving our self-esteem, helping us take the necessary actions to get and achieve what we want, and encouraging consistency with our action plan.

Do Affirmations Work for Money?

This is the billion-dollar question, isn’t it? We may have heard of the efficacy of affirmations in areas like spirituality, health, athletic performance, and other careers. But does the same happen when it comes to money? I’m pleased to share that research has demonstrated their effectiveness in other aspects of our lives, including our finances.

A study published in the Journal of Financial Therapy found that individuals who used positive affirmations related to money experienced a significant increase in their financial well-being.

There are countless success stories of individuals who have used affirmations to improve their financial situation. Many of these individuals e.g Oprah Winfrey and Jim Carrey, have reported that affirmations really helped them overcome limiting beliefs about money, attract more abundance and prosperity into their lives, and achieve their financial goals.

So yes. Affirmations work for money too.

How to Use Money Affirmations

As powerful a tool as saying affirmations is for improving our relationship with money and attracting more abundance and prosperity into our lives, it needs to be implemented correctly from the very beginning for it to be a successful practice. Yes, it would feel strange in the beginning, as with anything new. But the initial discomfort will pass with practice.

Here are 13 steps for incorporating affirmations into your daily life and making them more effective:

1. Choose affirmations that resonate with you

It’s important to choose affirmations that resonate with you on a personal level. This can help you feel more connected to the affirmation and make it easier to incorporate into your daily life. What do you want to be true regarding your finances? What are those things you ardently desire? Write them down.

2. Use positive language

It’s important to frame affirmations in a positive way, as our subconscious mind tends to focus on the positive rather than the negative. Instead of saying “I am not in debt,” for example, it’s more effective to say “I am debt-free and financially free.” By making this shift, we can help our mind to focus on what we want to attract into our lives, rather than what we want to avoid.

3. Use present tense

Using present tense language can help make affirmations more effective. For example, instead of saying “I will attract wealth and abundance,” say “I attract wealth and abundance.”

4. Keep them straight to the point

Keep your affirmations brief and to the point to make them easier to recall. Use emotional adverbs as much as possible. Words like gratefully, happily, enthusiastically, readily, confidently, joyously, and optimistically, among others.

5. Use affirmations that are specific and measurable

Using affirmations that are specific and measurable can help you track your progress toward your exact financial goals. For example, instead of saying “I attract more money,” say “I attract an additional $1,000 per month.”

6. Keep them top of mind

Make the effort to put your written/printed affirmations in your line of sight by placing them in different places. Your dressing mirror, fridge door, workstation table, the screensaver/wallpaper on your phone, laptop, and other devices as examples.

7. Repeat affirmations consistently and passionately

It’s important to repeat them consistently and with conviction. Don’t just do it once or a few times. Repeat your affirmations on a regular basis, such as every morning or before bed. This helps to reinforce the affirmation in your mind and make it more effective. Energy flows where focus goes. I recommend you say them out loud and not just in your head.

8. Visualise your affirmations

Visualisation is a powerful tool for making affirmations more effective. Try visualising yourself already having achieved your financial goals while repeating your affirmations. This can help reprogram your subconscious mind and make attracting abundance and prosperity into your life easier. Feel the words you declare as much as possible.

9. Believe in your affirmations

It’s important to believe in your affirmations and the possibility of achieving your financial goals. I know this can be hard to pull off because of past and present circumstances. Still, if at your core you don’t believe that the goals in your affirmations are possible, you are less likely to achieve them.

10. Express gratitude

Gratitude is a powerful tool for attracting more money and abundance into our lives. By expressing gratitude for what we already have, we open ourselves up to receiving more. When we focus on the present abundance, we shift our mindset from one of scarcity. This helps us attract and identify more opportunities for the wealth and success we are affirming in our lives.

11. Use affirmations in conjunction with action

This is a hugely important point. While affirmations can be powerful on their own, they need to be used in conjunction with the right set of actions. Even the Good Book tells us faith without works is dead! (James 2 verse 26). You must take practical steps towards achieving your financial goals while using affirmations to reinforce your belief in your ability to achieve them.

12. Surround yourself with positive influences

Surrounding yourself with positive influences, such as positive people and uplifting content, can help reinforce your affirmations. Being a part of financial literacy communities and/or having a financial coach in your corner are huge boosts toward making what you affirm become reality! They help you stay motivated and focused on your financial goals, and also help you with accountability.

13. Be patient and persistent

Achieving financial abundance and success takes time and effort. It’s super important to be patient and persistent and to continue using affirmations even when you don’t see immediate results. And even more so when you don’t feel like saying them. Then watch out for those positive signs unfolding over time in your attitude and decisions regarding money. Continue affirming yourself even as you improve. By staying committed to your affirmations, you will create the powerful mindset shift that helps you attract more abundance and prosperity into your life.

Conclusion

Money affirmations can be a powerful tool for improving our relationship with money and attracting more abundance and prosperity into our lives. We can use it to create necessary mindset shifts and reprogram our subconscious minds to embrace better and achieve our desired financial goals.

When you focus on positive beliefs and affirmations, cultivate a mindset of gratitude and abundance, and take action toward your financial goals, you can create the life you want and live a more prosperous and fulfilling life. Be sure to incorporate the methods mentioned above into your daily routine so your affirmations are more effective and create that positive relationship with the money and abundance you seek.
